Legal Primer for Counselling Professionals

Professor Robert Solomon, L.L.B, L.L.M. will conduct a workshop to help you forestall legal dilemmas

Friday, May 14th, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm
at the Casablanca Winery Inn in Grimsby, ON
on the South side of the QEW at the Casablanca exit.

Is that a subpoena?
For anyone in the counselling field, being served a subpoena or running into legal difficulties would likely cause some concern. Attending this workshop will help you have confidence in the legal aspects of the counselling work you do, and may prevent difficulties from arising. It will provide awareness if you do need to deal with a legal problem.

Extremely knowledgeable in this field, Professor Solomon was the lead author of A Legal Guide for Social Workers, 2nd Ed. published by the OASW. He is currently on the Faculty of Law at The University of Western Ontario and is the National Director of Legal Policy for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada. He has been involved in research and teaching for over 35 years, and has served as consultant to Health and Welfare Canada, the Law Reform Commission of Canada, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, and the Commonwealth of Australia Health Department.

Social Work Week 2010

Poverty: There ARE Solutions
A Panel Presentation
Wednesday, March 3rd, 7 to 8:30 pm
at Niagara Regional Headquarters' Room 101
Schmon Parkway, left side off St. David's Road West

Panelists are Faye Nickerson, BSW, of Start Me Up Niagara, Dan Silver, BSSW, Manager of Operations at Niagara Regional Housing, and the Family Mental Health Support Network Niagara, and Gabriela Ruiz, SSW, for Niagara Social Assistance.

On the cold and blustery evening of January 29th, Niagara Branch members gathered at St. Catharines' Vecera Restaurant's lounge for finger food and networking talk. It was good to see old friends and pick up new knowledge. These get-togethers are an occasional and pleasant opportunity to catch up with who's who and what's up.

That night we also appreciated offers of help for the Legal Primer workshop. Anyone else willing to contribute time that day or beforehand can contact any of the Board listed above or click on the president's name listed below.
