Northwestern Branch includes Thunder Bay, Kenora, Sioux Lookout and Northwestern Ontario.

Board/Executive Members

We continue to use a working group model and meet on a monthly basis. Members of the working group are as follows:

One of our working group members, Jenna Horan, is currently on maternity leave.

Recent Branch Initiatives

In January Northwestern Branch provided funding to a local student initiative on anti-oppression.  A representative of the group described their plans to raise awareness among community members of the many faces of oppression. 

For Social Work week this year, Northwestern Branch decided to mail greetings to each of our members inviting them to watch their e-mails during Social Work Week for the “joke of the day”…. A number of local agencies hosted events to celebrate Social Work Week in their own agencies as well.  Northwestern Branch again organized a full page sponsored ad in our local paper to recognize Social Work Week. 

AGM held November 13th

We followed up on interest from Lakehead University students and sponsored a contest offering cash prizes for the top three posters/creative renditions that addressed the theme of Social Workers: Making a Difference in the Lives of People. A comedian addressed the theme in a humorous way and a videoconference reached out to our regional members.
