Under-Funding of Services for First Nations Children

In June 2010, Gillian McCloskey, OASW Associate Executive Director, attended the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal hearing the motion to dismiss the complaint brought against the Government of Canada by the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada and the Assembly of First Nations.

As reported in an earlier OASW News Bulletin, the 2010 Ontario Budget announced the elimination of the Special Diet Allowance Program available to recipients of Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) through the Ministry of Community and Social Services who met specific medical criteria.
