Dr. Christina Harrington

Director at Large (2024-2026)

Dr. Christina Harrington, MSW, RSW has practiced in clinical roles for over 25 years. She began her career in community and hospital-based mental health programs and later practiced in critical care at a regional trauma centre.

Christina moved into private practice in 2009. She currently owns and is the Director of Social Work Solutions Canada, a thriving practice that offers an array of mental health services and treatment modalities. In this role, she also provides supervision to other social workers.

She also enjoys opportunities to teach as sessional faculty, and is currently teaching at Dalhousie University. Christina's doctoral dissertation focused on the bereavement experiences of family members of our fallen heroes in Afghanistan. Academia feeds her need for lifelong learning, and she enjoys research, publishing, and serving as a peer reviewer for international journals regarding death, dying and bereavement.

For Christina, working with frontline and first-response roles is near and dear to her heart. She was raised in a military family where her dad doubled as a part-time, volunteer fire fighter and her mother was a nurse, and is now proud to be part of a ‘blue’ family. She specializes in trauma and grief and continues to engage with community partners in research and developing best practices in this area. Christina regularly lectures at conferences bringing her expertise in these areas to further the health and wellbeing of those who serve their communities and their families. She also serves as an advisor on the Simcoe Suicide County Suicide Awareness Council.

Outside of work, family is very important to her, and she spends much of her time keeping up with her partner and their many children.

Prior to 2024, Christina previously had the privilege of serving on OASW’s Board of Directors for six years, and is passionate about returning to this role to advocate for and further the development of the voice of the social work profession.
