Dr. Yamam Abuzinadah

Dr. Yamam Abuzinadah, PhD, RSW, has extensive experience as a mental health consultant and educator in the area of diversity. She has a PhD in mental health, as well as a Master’s in Social Health and Counselling from Australia and she has worked with different international organizations in Australia and the Middle East. Yamam is bilingual in English and Arabic. In addition to being a social worker and psychotherapist, she is a certified wellness coach, a certified trauma specialist and a hypnotherapist.

Yamam works in primary and public health care and has a private practice where she applies diverse and skilled modalities to her clinical work. She has a special interest in supporting health care workers such as physicians, nurses and social workers experiencing burnout in frontline work. She also works with trauma survivors, migrants and refugees. She holds evidence-based certification in a number of trauma modalities.

Previously, Yamam has worked in mental health psychoeducation, academic training and education, and she is a passionate researcher. She is a member of different community organizations and Canadian, Australian and other Middle Eastern professional associations.

Yamam is motivated to work with OASW on raising awareness related to mental health, discrimination, Islamophobia and racism issues that face social workers. She also hopes to support OASW’s efforts to improve access to social work services in Ontario.
