OASW Shares its 2025 Budget Priorities with the Ontario Government

February 5, 2025

OASW has shared its priorities for the provincial government’s 2025 budget, with a focus on addressing barriers to accessing mental health care across the province. Our 2025 budget submission, Mental Health Support: When and Where We Need It, proposes three key recommendations, emphasizing the importance of investing in mental health solutions across settings to reduce system pressures and ensure Ontarians have access to high-quality mental health support:

1: Create a multi-year dedicated funding envelope for each school board to ensure there is one Registered Social Worker (RSW) per school.

2: Establish additional interprofessional primary care teams and ensure dedicated funding for Registered Social Workers.

3: Improve psychosocial supports for long-term care residents by renewing and expanding the Resident Health & Well-Being Program.

These recommendations were submitted to the Minister of Finance and to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.

We hope to see these recommendations reflected in the 2025 Ontario Budget, and we look forward to continued engagement with government to advance these recommendations.
