Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador is a volunteer leadership role designed to strengthen connections among OASW members, with a focus on student engagement and community-building.



Ambassadors represent OASW on campus, virtually, and in their local area by organizing events,
promoting the profession, and advising on issues relevant to social work students.

  • Abigail Lash-Ballew, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto
  • Elizabeth Parker, King's University College at Western University
  • River LeBrun and Matt Toner, University of Windsor
What are the key responsibilities?
  • Lead and facilitate meetings and events for local OASW student members
  • Promote OASW and engage with students, faculty, and the broader community
  • Collaborate with peers to plan inclusive, engaging campus and local activities
  • (virtual and in-person)
  • Provide feedback on student experiences and support OASW advocacy initiatives
  • Participate in regular Ambassador meetings with peers across Ontario

Who is eligible to become a student ambassador
  • Active OASW student member in good standing
  • Currently enrolled in a social work program in Ontario
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative, outgoing, and passionate about student and community
  • engagement

What is the time commitment?
  • One-year term; approx. 40 hours annually
  • Host 2–4+ events per year
How does OASW support student ambassadors?
  • Ongoing staff support for logistics and planning
  • Access to monthly peer meetings and resource toolkits
  • Annual budget to support local and provincial event planning
